This weight measurement guide is intended to eliminate the confusion stemming from the different measuring systems used today. It should be kept in mind this guide only covers the measurements that are frequently employed.
Weight Conversion Guide I
1 grain is equal to 0.0648 grams, while 1 gram is equal to 15.4324 grains. 1 gram is also equal to 0.643 pennyweights and 0.03215 troy ounces. 1 pennyweight is equivalent to 1.55517 grams. 1 avoirdupois ounce is the same as 28.3495 grams, while 31.10348 grams is equivalent to 1 troy ounce.
1 kilogram is equal to 32.15076 troy ounces. 1 pennyweight is equivalent to 24 grains or 0.05 troy ounces. This weight measurement guide can also point out that 20 pennyweights is equivalent to 480 grains and a troy ounce.
1 avoirdupois pound is equal to 14.583 troy ounces and 1 troy ounce is equal to 1.09714 avoirdupois ounces. 1 pound (lb) is equivalent to 16 ounces (oz). 1 US ton is equal to 2000 lb or 32,000 oz. 1000 grams is equal to 1 kilogram.
Weight Conversion Guide II
When you know ounces and want to convert to grams, multiply the ounce figure by 28.35. To change pounds into kilograms, multiply pounds by 0.454. To get the megagrams equivalent of the short ton, multiply the short ton by 0.907.
To convert grams into ounces, this weight measurement guide suggests you multiply the grams by 0.035. To change kilograms to pounds, multiply the kilogram by 2.202. To change megagrams to short tons, multiply the megagram value by 1.103.
A Guide to Heirloom Recipe Weights
Most heirloom recipes use antiquated measuring methods. The following are some of the conventions used and their modern equivalents.
1 wineglass means 1/4 cup, while 1 jigger is the same as 1.5 fluid ounces. 1 gill is equal to 1/2 cup, 1 teacup is the same as 3/4 cups (a bit smaller in some cases) while 1 coffee cup is about a cup today. Other Weights
1 penny weight is equal to 1/20 ounce, while a drachm is about 1/8 ounce. When 60 drops of thick fluid is mentioned, that’s about a teaspoon.
