The World’s Smallest Dog
The world’s smallest dog is said to be a cute little Chihuahua named Boo Boo, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Boo Boo is considered as the smallest dog in the world in terms of height, standing a mere four inches tall.
She is only about four ounces heavy and takes her food straight from a teaspoon. Her owners claim that when she was just a baby, she was fed with the use of a medicine dropper.
Boo Boo was four years old at the time of her inclusion in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Other Recorded Smallest Dogs
Over time, there have been quite a few dogs that were deemed as the world’s smallest dog. There was Heaven Sent Brandy, also a female Chihuahua who was measured to be only six inches long.
She was seen as the smallest dog ever back in 2005.
In terms of length, Heaven Sent Brandy’s spot appear to be in jeopardy as Lulu, a British Chihuahua, is vying to be the smallest dog in the world. She was measured as only four inches long at ten weeks old.
However, she cannot hold yet the title because she needs to be at least a year old before she can be considered as the smallest dog across the globe. She will still mature and her size may have increased by then.
The record-holder so far was a Yorkie called Sylvia. She was the smallest dog ever to have been recorded, measuring only 2.5 inches in height or about 6.4 centimeters.
She was also the smallest in length, measuring a mere 3.5 inches or approximately 8.9 centimeters long. She was measured when she was two years old back in 1945.
Smallest Dog Breeds
Dog breeds considered as the smallest ones in the world, other than the Chihuahua and the Yorkshire Terrier, include the Affenpinscher which grows only between 9 and 11 inches in height measuring from the shoulder; and Bichon Frise which likewise grows only between 9 and 11 inches tall.
The Japanese Chin on the other hand, grows between 8 and 11 inches and can weigh between 4 to 9 lbs. The Pomeranian is a favorite companion dog and this breed can grow between 7 and 12 inches, weighing between 3 to 7 lbs.
