Despite the uncertain economic situation, the popularity of SUVs continues to grow. The specifications below are for some of the newer and better known models.
SUV Dimensions: the Honda CRV
The first generation Honda SUVs are 4510 mm (178 in) long. They are 1750 mm (69 in) wide and 1675 mm (65.9 in) high. The fuel capacity is 15.3 US gallons (equal to 58 L or 13 imp gallons). The engine is the 2.0 L B20B I4 or the 2.0 L B20Z I4.
The second generation models (2002-06) use the 2.0 L I4 engine, the 2.2 L turbo diesel I4 or the 2.4 L I4. The wheelbase measures 2625 mm (or 103.3 in). The length is 4600 mm (equal to 180 in). The CRV is 1785 mm (70.3 in) wide and 1680 mm (66 in) high. The fuel capacity is still 15.3 US gallons.
SUV Dimensions: Nissan Murano
The first generation (2002-07) is 4770 mm (187.6 in) long and 1880 mm (74.0 in) wide. The height of the 2003 – 2005 variant is 1705 mm. It is 1709 mm (67.3 in) for the 2006-07 models. The engine is the 3.5L 245 hp (183 kW) V6.
The second generation is 188.5 in (4788 mm long, 66.9 in (1699 mm) high and 74.1 in (1882 mm) wide. The engine is the 3.5L 265 hp (198 kW) V6 with the CVT transmission. Some of the features of the Murano include iPod integration, wipers that can sense rain and navigation systems.
SUV Dimensions: Mercedes Benz GLK Class
The wheelbase of the GLK is 108.5 in (2756 mm). The length is 178.2 in (4526 mm), and the height is 66.9 in (1699 mm). The GLK is 79.4 in (2017 mm) wide. The transmission is 7 speed automatic. The engines to choose from are the 3.3L V6, the 3.2L CDI V6, 3.0L V6 and 2.2L CDI I4.
The SUV also comes with nine airbags and a restraint mechanism for shielding passengers from harm. Other models are the GLK 220 CDI (168 hp), the GLK 250 CDI (2.2 L), the GLK 320 (221 hp), the GLK 350 (268 hp) and the GLK 280/300 (22 hp).
SUV Dimensions: Mercury Mountaineer
The first generation (1997-2001) Mountaineer has a wheelbase measuring 111.6 in (2835 mm). It is 190.7 in (4844 mm) long, 70.2 in (1783 mm) wide and 70.3 in (1786 mm) high. The second generation engines are the 4.0 L Cologne V6 and the 5.0 L Windsor V8.
The second generation Mountaineer has a wheelbase measuring 113.8 in (2891 mm). The length is 190.9 in (4849 mm) and the width is 72.1 in (1831 mm). The height is 72.5 in (1842 mm).
The third generation has a 113.7 in (2888 mm) wheelbase. The length is 193.5 in (4915 mm), while the width is 73.5 in (1867 mm). The height is 72.8 in (1849 mm). The engines used are the 4.0 L Cologne V6 or 4.6 L Modular V8.
In recent years, SUV dimensions have changed, with the truck based models now giving way to the car like crossover SUV.
