Sizes of Baby Bottles

Among the baby essentials that go into the baby bag which you will be taking to the hospital with you when it’s time for the little one to pop-out is the baby bottle.
There are different sizes of baby bottles out in the market today and depending on your preference, you can choose any one size prior to the baby’s birth. You may also choose to stock-up on different sizes just so you’ll have other options.
Sizes of Baby Bottles
Baby bottle sizes generally comes in 3-ounce, 4-ounce, 5-ounce, 8-ounce and 9-ounce sizes. What this basically indicates is the maximum amount of milk the bottle can hold.
For newborns, the 3-ounce or 4-ounce bottle will work best. Since newborns do not generally take in a large amount of milk when they are feeding, these sizes of baby bottles will do.
Newborns usually start with just one or two ounces of milk per feeding. As the baby starts to grow, his appetite likewise increases.
Choosing Sizes of Baby Bottles
When deciding on which sizes of baby bottles to get, it is important to consider the length of time you will have use for the bottles. While the smaller one are ideal for newborns and probably for the next month or two, you may find that these bottles may no longer suffice once the baby’s appetite increases.
Some parents will get about two to four 3-ounce or 4-ounce bottles and then stock-up on the largest size they can find which is usually the 8-ounce or 9-ounce bottle, depending on the manufacturer’s largest available size.
Still other parents simply stock-up on the largest size and use this from the day the baby is born until well into his toddler years. This gives them the most value for their money since they will be using the bottles for a longer period of time.
Changing Teats
To make the larger sizes of baby bottles suitable for newborns and months-old babies, you can simply change the teat or the nipple to control the flow of the milk as the baby suckles on the teat.
The teats usually indicate which baby age they are ideal for so you won’t have a hard time choosing the right teat appropriate for you baby’s age.
Also, you may get two or three different teat sizes and have the baby try each one to help you determine which one they are most comfortable with.
