If you are getting a pastry brush with bristles made of nylon or plastic materials, it is important that you hand-wash this in order to get all residues out, particularly in between bristles.
You should know that brushes of this sort are prone to bacterial growth when not cleaned properly hence; it is of utmost importance that you thoroughly clean this before and after use; and then hang to dry.
On the other hand, if your bristles are made from silicone, you will find that this type is easier to clean and maintain. With a silicone pastry brush, you can simply put this in the dishwasher after use with no need to hand-wash first.
As a matter of fact, if you haven’t yet bought your pastry brush, it’s best to look for one made with silicone bristles as these are resistant to heat and they are usually made of solid mold so you won’t have to worry about bristles falling off.
