Passport Photo Size
A passport is a type of travel document, usually in the form of a booklet, issued by the government to their citizens.
This is generally required for travel outside of your home country and is actually a very important document to have when traveling internationally because it certifies that you are a citizen of your country and are therefore eligible to go back home.
Some governments require a travel visa from foreigners wishing to visit their country while others allow entry to specific countries — within a given time limit; i.e. 30 to 60 days of stay only.
Passport Requirements
Depending on the country where the passport will be issued, there are different requirements that you need to fulfill prior to applying for the passport and subsequently being approved to get one.
You need to have all the required documents ready for submissions together with your passport application form to expedite processing and issuance.
There are however, basic requirements for passport issuance no matter which country you are getting your passport. Two of these basic requirements are your birth certificate and current photo.
Passport Photo Size
You should know that you cannot submit just any current photo that you have. There is a required passport photo size and again, this size is determined by the government issuing the passport.
Countries also determine the color of the background for your passport photo. The important thing to remember here is that the photo should have a clear image of your face.
In the United States, passport photo should measure 2 inches by 2 inches or about 51 by 51 centimeters. The head should be between 25 millimeters and 35 millimeters from the tip of the chin to the crown of the head.
For an Australian passport, the photo should be a minimum of 45 millimeters by 35 millimeters; and head size should be between 32 millimeters and 36 millimeters from the tip of the chin to the top of your head.
If you are applying for an Irish passport, minimum photo dimensions are 35 millimeters by 45 millimeters and the maximum size is 38 millimeters by 50 millimeters.
For a Philippine passport, photo size should be 4.5 centimeters by 3.5 centimeters. Minimum image size of the face should be 3 centimeters.
Passport photos should have been taken no more than six months prior to application and must be in full color. You should also take note of the number of photos that you are required to submit.
