Oboe Dimensions
One of the wind instruments that is very interesting to learn about is the oboe (also called in French as “hautbois” – a term which refers to “high wood”). But not all oboe instruments are made similar. In fact, when you check out the market, you may find some oboe dimensions that may differ with other types of oboe models being sold.
To get a better idea, you may have to spend time in learning what types hold certain oboe dimensions that you may be willing to check out. So, here are the different types:
The Baroque Oboe
When you look for an oboe, you may want to see what options you have for the baroque oboe.
Particular dimensions are the following:
The diameter of its ungouged cane is about 12 mm. Its gouge is set around .46 to .49 mm.
Checking its fine creation, you may also learn that its staple is about 63 mm long and has a bottom diameter of about 5.5mm. When you look at the total length of its reed (which actually includes the blades and the staple of the oboe) is around 88mm. Its brass wire is created at around .012 reed.
Another part of this type of instrument is called the lay which may have a dimension of around 14.5 mm for some models.
The Classical Oboe
This type of oboe is made with narrow bores. This helps you play some high notes on it without any hassles.
The standard dimensions of most models of this type are around 16.75 by 41.75 by 4.75 for its weight, height, and diameter. Some of the inside dimensions are around 12 and 1/2 by 8 and 7/8 by 3 and 1/2.
The Viennese Oboe
One of the most interesting and appealing feature of the Viennese oboe type is that most of these types that are being sold still retain most of its original qualities since the 1900s. The standard dimensions are around 15 inches by 7 inches by 5 inches, or 12 by 9.3 by 0.8 inches.
The Modern Oboe
Another common type of oboe is called as the Modern Oboe. Although it is referred to as “modern,” this type has been selling for years since its creation of the French family – the Trieberts – in the early 1800.
The dimensions include the following:
The top opening is made at about 3 by 2.25. Its standard dimensions are around 10.2 by 6.9 by 1.2 inches. Other models have dimensions of about 11.4 by 9.41 by 0.9 inches.
These various oboe dimensions cater to its different types. It would be wise to remember these specifications so you would know which type would be more preferable to you.
