Notebook AC Adaptor Sizes
Notebook AC adaptors are used to provide electrical power to notebook computers. The notebook AC adaptor sizes vary, with some coming in at 7.4 x 5.4 x 2.2, 6.2 x 4.4 x 2.1 inches, 9.6 x 7.4 x 2.4 inches and various other sizes.
Testing a Notebook AC Adaptor
It is easy to test the adaptor. Turn off the notebook and remove the batteries. Insert the AC adaptor into a wall outlet you know is functioning. Hook up the AC adaptor’s end to your computer. Turn the computer on. If it is not working, the adaptor has to be replaced.
What is an AC Adaptor?
The AC adapter or power adaptor is a device inserted into an electrical outlet. This will change the AC electric current at the wall outlet to the specs required by the device, in this case, a notebook computer.
The AC adaptor is a container connected to the power cord. The connection will be at the power cord’s end where the device is inserted in the wall or in the power cord’s center.
How Does the Notebook AC Adaptor Function?
In spite of the different notebook AC adaptor sizes, they work the same way. The adaptor changes the electric currents obtained by the outlet into something the notebook can utilize. Within the AC adaptor are a couple of wire windings enveloped around an iron core.
The first wiring gets the 120 volt alternating current sent to the electrical outlet. This forms an electric field at the iron core. The other wire turns the electric field to an alternating electric current. The alternating current measure is based on the number of coils at the 2nd wire. This is in relation to the first winding number.
If the 2nd winding is half of the first, the current will measure half what it had done prior to being entered in the adaptor. For example, if the 1st winding has 10 volts, the 2nd will have 50 volts.
Other Information
AC stands for alternating current. It refers to the electric currents used to transmit power from an electrical source to a device. If you graph these, they will be shown as waves in an up and down motion.
The notebook AC adaptor sizes may seem unimportant, but it can be if you travel constantly and have to carry a lot of items. When you buy a power adaptor, make sure to use it only for the appropriate currents and volts.
