MIDI Keyboard Dimensions
MIDI keyboards are similar to pianos. The difference is that the MIDI keyboard has components that allow it to be used with a computer.
MIDI Keyboard Size: Korg NanoKEY
The Korg NanoKEY measures 4.2 x 1.5 x 4.2 inches and weighs 1.3 lbs. It has 25 keys and features four velocity curves. The device is compact enough you can carry it when traveling.
The NanoKEY will relay the playing dynamics to your program precisely. When you are in Control Change Mode, the keys will switch to the MIDI controllers, allowing you to manage the settings and parameters in the program.
The Octave Shift function gives you quick access to the whole MIDI note range. There are buttons for the modulation and pitch included. The Korg control editor can be downloaded from their website, letting you customize the instrument to your precise needs.
MIDI Keyboard Size: M-Audio Axiom 25
The M-Audio Axiom 25 measures 18.8 x 11.2 x 2.6 inches (7.8 x 28.5 x 6.6 cm) and weighs 5.5 lbs. This 25 key USB keyboard has 8 rubber trigger pads and semi-weighted action.
There are 8 rotary encoder knobs so you can modify the synth parameters. The M-Audio Axiom 25 also has mixers and half a dozen transport controls included. Almost every component in the unit is assignable.
Programming is simple to do with the LCD display. The keyboard also has twenty memory locations and an editor for configuring the setups.
MIDI Keyboard Size: M-Audio Axiom 49
The M-Audio Axiom 49 measures 31.9 x 11.2 x 2.6 inches or 81 x 28.5 x 6.6 cm. The 8 rubber trigger pads allow you to set the visual effects and programs easily. The M-Audio Axiom 49 also lets you assign rotary encoders for the mixers, such as effects sends.
You can also assign other synth settings. Feedback is clear with the LCD display and half a dozen assignable transport buttons are included. The 9 sliders can be mapped for the mixers.
There are more than a dozen buttons, and expression pedal jacks are part of the package as well. All the controllers can be mapped to virtually any MIDI specification.
MIDI Keyboard Size: M-Audio E 37
The M-Audio E 37 measures 18.9 x 5.1 x 2.4 inches and weighs 1.8 lbs. The instrument is designed for users who are new to playing and making music. The keyboard can be hooked up to a Mac or PC.
The 37 keys allow them to work with varying computer configurations. As the unit is Class compliant, the set up is automated be it for the Mac or Windows. Some of the programs included are Sound Studio II (v.1.1) and Picture Board. The latter can be a handy tool for teaching kids how to play the instrument.
The MIDI keyboard size is important for space reasons. However, the physical dimensions do not necessarily reflect the quality of the instrument. You need to read the full specs to get an idea if that particular keyboard has what you need.
