How Large is a Snowboard?
Are you off to get a new snowboard? Choosing the right one may not be as easy as it looks. You’re not actually buying something like clothes or a new pair of shoes. Of course, it takes more than just looking cool on the board. There are actually a few things to look into than usual before buying one that you will use.
Snowboard Sizes
Snowboards will definitely be sold in different sizes. Depending on several factors, a snowboard will be designed differently. These boards will differ in length, width, side cut, flex, tail and nose width, and camber. It is quite unfortunate that sometimes even after all the considerations that can be made, people usually end up buying only the boards they prefer. Well, everyone has the freedom to choose the board that they think will suit them the best.
Generally speaking, when you walk into a store to buy one of these boards, the guy at the store will sell you a board depending on the type of snowboarding you’re going to do. Snowboards that are meant for children will usually be around 90 centimeters in length. The usual snowboard sizes that are designed for adults will be from 140 cm to 165 cm in length. However, if you ask for a racing snowboard or an alpine snowboard then they might recommend a board as long as 215 centimeters.
Snowboard Sizes by Rider Weight
Another way to make sure that you’re getting the right sized snowboard is to base the dimensions of the board by the weight of the rider. As a rule of thumb, heavier riders should use less flexible boards that are relatively longer than usual. Lighter riders should use boards that are more flexible but are shorter. People with an average build should pick a board that stands as tall as their chin.
A rider that weighs 70 lbs should get a freeride board that is 134 cm in length or a freestyle board that is 129 cm in length. A rider that weighs around 100 lbs should get a freeride board that is around 143 cm or a freestyle board that is 138 cm long. Riders that weigh 130 lbs should get freeride boards that are 152 cm long or freestyle boards that are 147 cm long.
Riders that weigh 150 lbs should get freeride boards that are 158 cm long or freestyle boards that are 153 cm long. Riders that weigh 180 lbs should get a freeride board that is around 162 cm long or a freestyle board that is 158 cm long. Heavier riders that are 200 lbs in weight should get a 163 cm freeride board or a 160 cm freestyle board.
Take note that these recommended snowboard sizes are not set in stone. Much of this will eventually depend on a rider’s preference, weight, and riding style. You may actually adjust the recommended lengths from three to nine centimeters if you wish.
