Beer Boot Dimensions
Commonly used in beer gardens, colleges and German-themed bars, a 
beer boot is drinking glass shaped like a boot. To make it more interesting, this glassware usually features designs like markings, logos and insignias. It can be used for drinking challenges, which may be passed from one drinker to another. It comes in two main styles, namely the mouth-blown and the machine-pressed versions. Additionally, it is also good to know the different beer boot dimensions.
The Dimensions of a Beer Boot
Although it is available in two main styles, beer boots come in various sizes. In terms of capacity, mouth-blown beer boots can hold beer ranging from 1 to 2 liters. On the other hand, the sizes of machine-pressed beer boots range from as small as a shot glass to as big as 1-liter capacity glass. The smallest version of a beer boot comes in the form of a shot glass. On the average, this type of glass stands 3.25 inches high. In terms of capacity, each shot is comprised of 1.5 ounces.
For instance, a 1-liter Bavarian beer boot typically stands 10 inches to 10.5 inches high. It has a capacity of 1 liter, which is equivalent to 33 fluid ounces. Meanwhile, some beer boots with beautiful engravings are available in different versions, one of which has a capacity of 3 liters. Aside from these versions, there is also a Spaten beer boot, the capacity of which is 2 liters or 66 fluid ounces. It has a standard height of 11.75 inches.
Additional Facts and Other Interesting Details
Based on historical accounts, the beer boot originated at the start of the 20th century, specifically from German soldiers. Although this claim is somewhat disputable, it still has a cultural significance. Aside from this, another tradition believes that a Prussian general promised his troops that he would use his boot to drink beer if they win the upcoming battle. When they won the battle, the general fulfilled the promise he had made in front of his soldiers.
Another belief states that during World War I, German soldiers ran out of something to drink on. Because of this, they would drink beer from a boot, specifically right before they engaged in battle. Before a soldier would drink from it, the boot was usually flicked as a sign of good luck. After drinking, it was to be flicked again, this time to wish the succeeding soldier good luck for the upcoming battle.
The popularity of beer boots blossomed after the comedy film entitled “Beerfest” was released in 2006. ‘Das Boot’ was featured in the movie, which is a beer boot with a capacity of 2 liters.
