Shot Glass Sizes
When you say shot glass you are definitely referring to a small glass that is intended to measure or hold liquor. The liquor contained in the glass is either combined into a mixed drink or gulped straight from it thus the term ‘shot’.
Shot Glass Sizes
Various countries have their own standard classification of the single and double shot glass sizes. In Australia, India, and New Zealand, the single shot is 30 milliliters and the double shot is 60 milliliters.
In the countries of Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, and Russia, the shot glass sizes for single and double are 50 milliliters and 100 milliliters, respectively. In Czech Republic, they have a small size of 20 milliliters. The most common size for a single shot in this country is 50 milliliters but it has been changed recently to 40 milliliters and the double shot is 80 or 100 milliliters.
In Estonia and Finland, the single shot is 40 milliliters and the double shot is 80 milliliters. In Finland, however, the restaurants are being regulated by law to only serve a single shot at a time per customer and serving double shots is illegal.
The shot glass sizes in Germany are a little bit smaller. Their single shot is 20 milliliters and their double shot is 40 milliliters. In the Republic of Ireland, the single shot is 35.5 milliliters and the double shot is 71 milliliters. In Poland, the small size is 25 milliliters, the single shot is 50 milliliters, and the double shot is 100 milliliters.
In Sweden, the small size is 20 milliliters, the single shot is 40 milliliters, and the double shot is 60 milliliters. In Slovakia, the small size is 20 or 25 milliliters, the single shot is 40 or 50 milliliters, and the double shot is 80 or 100 milliliters. The most common of all the shot glass sizes in this country is the single shot which they call ‘pol deci’ meaning ‘half a decilitre’.
South Africa has a different story. Their national government has made an official description of the size for the single shot and that is 20 milliliters. This is the only shot glass size that they have.
In the United Kingdom, the single shot is 25 milliliters basing on the Weights and Measurements Act of 1985. But there are also some pubs and bars that serve 35 milliliters as the size for single shot. The double shot measures 50 milliliters.
In the United States, the small shot glass size is 29.57 milliliters or 1.0 fluid ounce and it is commonly called as the short shot or pony shot. The single shot is 44.36 milliliters or 1.5 fluid ounces and the double shot is 73.93 milliliters or 2.5 fluid ounces.
