Most Expensive Wine
Wines are alcoholic drinks usually made from fermented grapes. They basically come in two varieties: red and white. It is said that taking this in moderation is beneficial to one’s health particularly in decreasing the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.
A good number of people collect wines and the older or the more vintage it is, the better. However, collectors usually have to pay a hefty price for acquiring some of the rarest wines in the world today.
Most Expensive Wines
1992 Screaming Eagle Cabernet – Cost: USD500,000
The most expensive wine in the world is the 1992 Screaming Eagle Cabernet. This fetched a steep price of five hundred thousand dollars at a charity event back in 2000.
This is a six-liter bottle of wine made from a vineyard in Napa Valley. Cisco Systems’ Chaise Bailey was the lucky highest bidder for this wine. Unfortunately for others who would also want this wine, the vineyard does not accommodate orders anymore and the rest of the wine has been sold out.
1907 Heidsieck Champagne – Cost: USD275,000
This sparkling wine is more than one hundred years old and is one of the rare wines that were found deep into the bottom of the sea back in 1997. They were originally supposed to be for the Russian Imperial Family back in the early 1900s but the ship never reached them.
Its story alone makes it rare already but considering the fact that there were only two hundred bottles of these found by divers make them even rarer; hence, the steep price tag.
1787 Chateau Lafite, Bordeaux – Cost: USD160,000
This wine may no longer be fit for consumption but it doesn’t mean that it’s not worth anything anymore. As a matter of fact, this wine fetched one hundred and sixty thousand US dollars at Sotheby’s auction back in 1985.
What makes this so priceless is the fact that Thomas Jefferson was once the proud owner of this bottle of wine and his initials are engraved on the bottle so this definitely more than quadrupled its original price.
This wine is currently part of the Forbes Collection housed somewhere in New York.
1945 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild Jeroboam – Cost: USD114,614
Again, what makes this wine rare and quite highly valuable is its original ownership which is of course the Rothschild family. Add to that the “V” etched on its label, which symbolizes the end of World War II, and what you have in your hands is a priceless bottle of wine.
Wine connoisseurs even gave this wine a perfect rating of 100% making it not only very priceless but exquisite to the palate, too.
