Height of the Statue of Liberty
One of the popular icons in the United States is the Statue of Liberty. She is so popular that she has made appearances in several movies, TV shows, and has even become an object to be manipulated or subject to illusions by magicians. One oft repeated question though is how tall the beloved lady liberty is.
Height
In response to the inquiry as to her height, people usually come up with different answers. Well, the reason for the difference simply depends on how one measures her height. Some people tend to measure the entire height of the statue while others, being more discreet, only measure the humungous statue itself excluding the base. Of course, it all boils down to personal choice.
If you measure only the statue itself from the foot or base to the torch you'll come up to a total height of 151 feet. However if you include the height of the pedestal along with the foundation on which the statue stands it will then stand as high as 305 feet. However, you choose to measure the height will all be up to you.
The Foundation
Miss liberty's foundation is neatly fashioned into an 11-pointed star-like shape. The foundation itself is 65 feet tall. Other than the interesting array of the foundation, she also stands on a pedestal made of stone that is around 89 feet high. That does give old liberty her added height boost.
Other Dimensions
The Statue of Liberty has a pair of very large feet, which are 25 feet long. She would have had a shoe size of 879 if she were a real human being. The other vital statistics are also quite intriguing as well. For instance, the waistline of this humongous statue is 35 feet. Her face, if you care to measure it, is a bit higher than eight feet tall.
The Statue of Liberty has a nose that is four feet and six inches in length. The torch that is ever lit will measure up to 42 feet. Those who have climbed up the stairs inside the statue will go up 354 steps just to reach the crown climbing all the way from the pedestal.
The crown on top of Statue of Liberty's head has 25 windows and gives visitors a view of New York Harbor. The crown on top of her head has seven points, symbolic of the seven continents and the seven seas. Each ray on the crown is nine feet long and weighs around 150 pounds. The total weight of the statue is around 225 tons or 450,000 pounds.
