Wetsuit Dimensions
No matter how flashy the wetsuit is, the garment is useless unless it is of the right size. Companies use different measurement scales, but the following examples should give you an idea of how sizes are obtained.
Wetsuit Dimensions for Men
XSmall is for men who stand between 5’2" – 5’5", weigh 115-130 lbs and have 32"-34" chests, 27"-28" waists and 32"-34" hips. Small size is for men with the following measurements: 5’5" – 5’7", 130-150 lbs, 34"-36" chests, 29"-31" waists and 34"-36" hips.
Medium is for those 5’7" – 5’10" tall, 150-170 lbs, with 36"-38" chests, 31"-33" waists and 36"-38" hips. Large is for 5’10" – 6’2", 170-185 lbs, 38"-40" chests, 33"-35" waists and 38"-40" hips.
The other sizes are X large (5’10" – 6’4", 185-205 lbs, 40"-43" chest, 35"-37" waist and 40"-43" hips) and XX Large (5’10" – 6’4", 205-230 lbs, 43"-45" chest, 37"-39" waist and 43"-45" hips).
Wetsuit Dimensions for Women
Size 4 (XXS) is for those who stand 5’1" – 5’3", weigh 90-105 lbs with 29"-31" chests, 20"-22" waists and 31"-33" hips. 6 (XS) is for women with the following stats: 5’2" – 5’4", 110-115 lbs chest: 30"-32"; waist: 21"-23", hips: 32"-34".
Size 8 (S) is for women, 5’3" – 5′ 5 1/2", 110-130 lbs, chest: 32"-34"; waist: 23"-25" and hips 34"-36". Size 10 (M) is for those 5’4" – 5′ 7 1/2", weigh 125-140 lbs, 34"-36" chest, 25"-27" waist and 36"-38" hips. Size 12 (L) is for women 5’6" – 5’10", 135-150 lbs, with 36"-38" chests, 27"-29"waists and 38"-40" hips.
Wetsuit Dimensions for Juniors
Size 6 (Junior) is for those who stand 4’0" – 4’2", weigh 35 – 45 lbs, 23" – 24" chests, 21" – 22" waists and 23" – 24" hips. Size 8 is for those 4’2" – 4’6", 45 – 55 lbs, 25" – 26" chests, 23" – 24" waists and 25" – 26" hips.
Size 10 is for those 4’6" – 4’8", weigh 55 – 65 lbs, 27" – 28" chests, 25" – 26" waists and 27" – 28" hips. Size 12 is for those 4’8" – 4’10", weigh 65 – 80 lbs, 28" – 29" chests, 26" – 27" waists and 28" – 29" hips.
Wetsuit dimension size 14 is for those 4’10" – 5’0", weigh 80 – 95 lbs with 29" – 30" chests, 27" – 28" waists, and 29" – 30" hips. The largest size for juniors is 16 (for 5’0" – 5’2", 95 – 110 lbs, 30" – 32" chests, 28" – 29" waists, 30" – 32" hips).
Tips for Buying Wetsuits
Check the thickness of the suits. This is measured in millimeters. The suit will say 5/2 or something similar. The first number is 5 mm, the thickness of the torso. The second number is the thickness around the limbs.
To find out if the wetsuit dimensions are correct, the suit should be a snug fit. It should be not be too loose or tight. By choosing the right garment, you will be protected from intense cold in the water.
