Pizza Dimensions
Pizza sizes generally come in three dimensions: small, medium and large. However, countries employ different measurements. The following examples are a general guide only.
Common Pizza Dimensions
In the United States, the small size is 10 inches and the medium size is 12 inches. The large size varies. In some restaurants, the large size is 14 inches. In others it is 16 inches. If the large
size is 16 inches, the 14 inch will be the medium.
The small size is still the 10 inch. Of course there are exceptions to this rule. Some smaller sized types come in at 4 inches or 8 inches. The usual homemade pizza size is 12 inches. Other countries might use different measurements, and some pizza makers serve pizza in square shapes. This means the measurement will be different.
Neapolitan Pizza and Others
Specific pizza types often need to be cut and shaped according to exact dimensions. The Neapolitan pizza dough (made up of San Marazano tomatoes and water buffalo milk) cannot be thicker than 3 mm. it is cooked in a stone oven at 905 F for 90 seconds.
The Lazio style pizza is very popular in Rome. Its thickness is
between 1 to 2 cm. It is made in an electric oven and sliced with scissors. It comes in several variants. Among the most well-known are pizza romama, pizza Viennese, capricciosa and Quattro fuaggi.
The biggest pizza size listed in the Guinness records was the one in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was 37.4 meters in diameter. It was made using 800 kg of cheese, 500 kg of flour and over 880 kg of tomato paste. The record was set in 1990.
