Besides the mouth, eyes and ears, the nose is one of the most prominent parts of the face. It is primarily used for breathing air in and out of the body. Two of the factors that define the shape of the nose are the nasal septum and the ethmoid bone. It is also used for smelling, which is the primary component of the olfactory system. Aside from these interesting facts, it is also good to learn about the world’s biggest nose.
The Biggest Nose in the World
In July 6, 2007, the Guinness Book of Records recorded the nose of Mehmet Ozyurek as the biggest nose in the world. It measured 8.8 centimeters or 3.5 inches. He currently resides in the City of Artvin in Turkey. However, an individual named Faizan Agha recently broke this record. He hails from the City of Rawalpindi in Pakistan. His nose has a measurement of 12.19 centimeters or 4.8 inches.

Today, the human nose is classified into various types. One of the major classifications is called the snub, which is relatively short in length. Likewise, it is not wide, hooked or sharp. Another type of nose is called the hawk, which is described as very convex. It is very sharp, thin and appears like a bow. It is called the hawk because of its resemblance with the beak of hawks.
Another type of nose is the Nubian, which is described as wide at the end part as well as broad and thick at the middle. The part of the nose near the forehead is narrow. People who have this type of nose usually have big nostrils. Its name was derived from the northern Sudanese ethnic group called Nubians.
The Greek-type of nose is very straight, which follows the line of the forehead. At the root of the nose, the usual depression found in other types of nose is non-existent. The Roman or Aquiline nose is known for its prominent bridge. For this reason, the nose looks slightly bent and curved. This type is common amongst people living in the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean regions.
Just like all the other parts of the body, the nose is not free from different kinds of medical conditions. Some of the most common diseases affecting the nose area include vasomotor rhinitis and nosebleeds. Other conditions, infections and diseases that affect the nose are systemic lupus erythematosus, Wegener’s granulomatosis as well as rheumatoid arthritis.
