Footstool Dimensions
The foremost consideration in deciding how big footstool dimensions should be is safety. The user should be able to place a foot or both feet on a footstool without toppling it over. Here are some common footstool sizes.
Standard Footstool Dimensions
Most mini stools are sized 15 x 11 x 11 inches. A height of 11 inches is just right for average persons to step on and reach heights further. That’s almost a foot added to one’s arm reach. The step height is also easy to climb. The standard stair riser or height is 0.20 to 0.25 meters. But with mini stools it may go as high as 0.30 meters or 11 to 12 inches. This is still manageable.
Step Width Considerations
A step width of 11 inches is enough for the average foot size to be supported. Anything smaller may make balancing difficult. What matters is that part of the soles, the feet’s arcs, and part of the heels are supported by the step width. When the user places the full body weight on the foot used on the stool, balance is easy, avoiding tipping it over. Bigger footstool dimensions, like a 1.3 or 1.5 feet width, are safer but the added weight and size may not make the stool convenient to move around anymore. Mini stools should also be easy to keep in small corners. Thus, footstool sizes should not be too bulky.
Step Length Considerations
A length of 15 inches is enough to keep both feet on the stool step firmly. Anything shorter may keep both feet too close to each other. This makes balancing and moving difficult. The feet should at least be kept apart by 2 to 3 inches. Footstool dimensions providing 14 to 15 inches of length can be used crosswise or lengthwise with a single foot. Just make sure the stud supports underneath do not provide for ledges on both ends more than an inch each. Longer ledges or noses tend to make stepping on them prone to losing balance. Longer lengths may add to the weight and bulk unsuitably.
Step Height Considerations
A height 11 or 12 inches from the ground is ideal. Anything shorter may render an ineffective reach; anything higher may be difficult for other persons to climb and cause loss of balance. Footstool dimensions where height is concerned should be carefully considered. Height sometimes makes or breaks the usefulness of a mini stool.
Multi Steps Stools
For extra higher stools, some people opt for 2 or 3 stepped stools. Some are easily assembled. Others are fixed. Footstool sizes should be adjusted. Like, the width should be smaller, about 9 to 10 inches, and the height should be shorter, with the riser about 0.20 to 0.25 meters.
