Dimensions of the Ford Explorer: 1st Generation (1991-94)
The wheelbase for the 3 Door model is 102.1 in (2593 mm); for the 5 Door model it is 111.9 in (equal to 2842 mm). The length of the 3 Door is 174.5 in (4419 mm); for the 5 Door, 184.3 in or 4673 mm.
The 1st generation models are 70.2 in (1778 mm) wide. The height of the 3 Door model is 67.5 in (1714 mm) and 67.3 in (1709 mm) for the 5 Door.
The fuel capacity for all 1st generation models is 19.4 US gallons (equal to 73.4 L). The early models used a 4.0 L 155 hp (116 kW) V6 engine with a 4 speed A4LD transmission (automatic).
Dimensions of the Ford Explorer: 2nd Generation (1995-2005)
The wheelbase dimensions are as follows. For the 1995-97 5 Door, it is 111.5 in (equal to 2831 mm). It is 111.6 in (2834 mm) for the 1998-2001 5 Door. For the 1995 to 99 models, it is 101.7 in (2565 mm) and for the 200-03 variants, 101.8 in or 2568 mm.
The lengths of the various models are: 190.7 in (4826 mm) for the 1998-2001 models; 180.8 in / 4572 mm for the 1998-99 3-Door types and 188.5 in (4788 mm) for the 1995-97 5 Door.
All models have the same width (70.2 in (1778 mm) and height, 67.0-68.3 in (about 1702 to 1735 mm). The fuel capacity is 21 US gallons (79.5 liters).
Dimensions of the Ford Explorer: 3rd Generation (2002-2005)
The wheelbase of the 2002-03 model is 113.7 in (2888 mm). There is only a slight difference with the 2004-05 models: 113.8 in (2890 mm). The height is 71.4 in (1803 mm); width is 72.1 in (1828 mm) and the length, 189.5 in (4800 mm). The fuel capacity is 22.5 US gallons (equivalent to 85.2 liters).
The engines used are either the 210 hp (157 kW) SOHC 4.0L V6 or the 239 hp (178 kW) 4.6 L V8. A notable addition was the third row seat, increasing passenger capacity to seven. An independent rear suspension was also added.
Dimensions of the Ford Explorer: 4th Generation (2006-2010)
The wheelbase is 113.7 in (2870 mm) and the length is 193.4 in (4902 mm). The fourth generation models are 73.7 in (1854 mm) wide. The height of the 2006-07 Explorer is 71.2 in (1803 mm); for the 2008 models, 72.8 in (1849 mm) and the 2009, 71.9 in (1826 mm). Fuel capacity is 22.5 US gallons.
4th generation models include tire monitoring systems and power running boards. The engine is the 210 hp (157 kW) 4.0 L V6. The 292 hp (218 kW) 24-valve V8 engine could also be used.
