What is the Size of a Fish Scale?
The fish scale sizes are as different as their capacities. You will see scales with dimensions of 12.3 x 5 x 1.2 inches, 12 x 4 x 2 inches and 11 x 5 x 3 inches. The designs also vary a great deal.
Weight Capacity
The weight capacities of these devices differ. Some can weigh fish up to 88 lbs. There are even bigger ones available. The minimum weight range is extensive too; some can weigh 20 grams minimum. If you go after small fish, you need to make sure the apparatus can weigh it properly. The same rule must apply if you like to catch big fish.
Most of these devices provide separate weight modes (i.e., kilograms, ounces and pounds). While the fish scale sizes are important, far more crucial is accuracy. A lot of these devices can store data in memory. This can be a handy feature if you have to weigh a lot of fish.
Auto Save Features
An auto-save feature is also nice in case you forget to record it. Most scales are waterproof too. Almost all of them have an ergonomic body. If you are handling fish, this feature will be important. There are even some scales that can add the weights of many fish.
Digital Displays
These displays are usually in green or yellow. Other colors used are red and blue. Here the metric system is displayed. Depending on the device, other weight denominations may be shown as well. No matter which device you use, any kind of fish can be weighed there as long as the fish scale sizes are correct.
Benefits
The biggest advantage they offer is relativity. You can be sure that the unit will display the figures accurately. Most of these units use AA or AAA batteries which are widely available. As long as you change the batteries, you can be assured of accurate reading. These scales have also become more affordable.
Another advantage they offer is portability. A fisherman carries a lot of equipment. A large scale means excess baggage. By getting a small scale, it becomes easier to carry. They are also less of a hassle to use. All of these devices have an on/off button. By turning it on only when you use it, you will save battery life.
The waterproof feature is the one aspect you should really examine. The protection levels are not always equal. Also remember that just because it is waterproof doesn’t mean you should keep getting it wet.
