Toilet Stall Dimensions
Standard toilet stall dimensions have been established so even handicapped people will have no problems using them. These specifications are used in the US.
General Measurements
The stall has to be 1525 mm / 60 inches at least. From the side, the water closet centerline should be 18 inches (455 mm). The door placement must be clear. The stile width cannot go beyond 4 inches (100 mm).
The placement with regards to the water closet has to be diagonal. It is possible to install an alternate door. The stile width specifications will still be applied.
Mounted Water Closet
The toilet stall dimensions for mounted water closets state the depth has to be 56 inches minimum. If the water closet is set on the floor, the minimum depth is 69 inches (1500 mm). The grab bar has to be 36 inches long (965 mm) minimum. This is installed to the rear of the water closet.
One end cannot exceed 6 inches (150 mm). The other end cannot go beyond 12 inches (305 mm). The six inches is at the stall’s interior corner. The 12 inch measurement is at the back wall.
Stalls at End of Rows
The door can be swung in the stall under specific conditions. This is applicable if the stall extends beyond 56 inches. The door must be diagonally situated to the water closet. For the water closet centerline, the stall is 18 inches (455 mm). This is at the side wall.
There are also alternate stalls that can be used. One can have a width of 36 inches (915 mm). The other one has to be 48 inches (1220 mm) wide. In terms of depth, this has to be 66 inches (1675 mm) minimum. This measurement is for the floor mounted closet.
If the stall measures 36 inches, matching bars have to be along the side wall. If the stall measures 48 inches, a grab bar has to be set to the water closet rear. The other one will be at the side of the closet. The bars have to be around 33 to 36 inches (840 to 915 mm).
The water centerline closet has to be 18 inches (455 mm). The grab bars have to be set 54 inches (1370 mm) from the rear wall. The one at the other end cannot be 12 inches (305 mm) beginning at the rear wall. This measurement is applicable for these toilet stall dimensions.
